Segunda parte de U2 y la influencia de la biblia. Todos los componentes de U2 son Cristianos y eso se nota en sus letras:
- Canción:U2 A Celebration, letra: “I believe in the walls of Jericho/I believe they’re coming down”. Josue 6:20 “ Entonces el pueblo gritó, y los sacerdotes tocaron las bocinas; y aconteció que cuando el pueblo hubo oído el sonido de la bocina, gritó con gran vocerío, y el muro se derrumbó. El pueblo subió luego a la ciudad, cada uno derecho hacia adelante, y la tomaron”.
- Canción: U2 Seconds , letra: “Like a thief in the night”. 1 Tesalonicenses 5:2 “Porque vosotros sabéis perfectamente que el día del Señor vendrá así como ladrón en la noche”.
- Canción: U2 Like a Song , letra: “A new heart is what I need — Oh God, make it bleed”. Ezequiel 36:26 “Os daré corazón nuevo, y pondré espíritu nuevo dentro de vosotros; y quitaré de vuestra carne el corazón de piedra, y os daré un corazón de carne”.
- Canción: U2 Pride (In the name of Love), letra: “One man betrayed with a kiss”. Lucas 22:48 “Entonces Jesús le dijo: Judas, ¿con un beso entregas al Hijo del Hombre?”.
- Canción: U2 The Unforgettable Fire , letra: “And if the mountains should crumble or disappear into the sea. Salmos 46:2 “Por tanto, no temeremos, aunque la tierra sea removida, Y se traspasen los montes al corazón del mar”.
- Canción: U2 Bullet the Blue Sky, letra: “Jacob wrestled the angel — And the angel was overcome”. Genesis 32:25 “Y cuando el varón vio que no podía con él, tocó en el sitio del encaje de su muslo, y se descoyuntó el muslo de Jacob mientras con él luchaba.”
- Canción: U2 Vertigo, letra: “All of this can be yours — just give me what I want — and no one gets hurt”. Lucas4:7 “Si tú postrado me adorares, todos serán tuyos”.
- Canción: U2 The Fly, letra: “Love we shine like a burning star — We’re falling from the sky tonight”. Lucas 10:18 “Y les dijo: Yo veía a Satanás caer del cielo como un rayo”

Me parece muy interesante que las letras contengan citas biblicas. Pero me gustaria saber sobre la letra de Yaweh, que tan relacionado es con la biblia.
El título Yaweh es el nombre de Dios.
Y en la letra de la canción: “A city should be shining on a hill” hace referencia a Mateo 5:14 “Vosotros sois la luz del mundo; una ciudad asentada sobre un monte no se puede esconder”
Sabía de esta influencia, pero que no fuera tan marcada. Un artículo muy interesante.
Lo que me resulto curioso, cuando me entere de esta influencia de biblia en U2, es del profundo conocimiento que debe tener Bono de la Biblia para incluir pasajes en sus letras.
Me parece genial saber que esta banda tenga como referencia al mejor ejemplo…Hay tantos grupos que lo único que transmiten son cosas malas…por qué de repente U2 no puede exteriorizar “algo” que es Tan bueno y sano??? Los aplaudo ya que no dejan de ser una inspiración para Todos, sin excepción…Ojalá nunca dejen de hacerlo…

pues que bueno que U2 sea una banda que le da esperanza a muchas personas.. es algo que se necesita en ciertas situaciones..a mi la cancion que mas me gusta es la de Yaweh…..el coro es muy bello… y transpira demasiada felicidad y potencia cuando Bono lo canta..mi segunda rola es la de Stuk in a moment,,mas por los tabs y el tono de su voz que por la letra…pero bueno..me voy…saludos a todos..

Hola, pues creo q entre muchas otras canciones tienen alusión a la biblia o a la religión. Yo no soy cristiano ni profeso alguna religión, pero me gusta U2 desde pequeño, y aunque casi desde entonces estuve conciente de que en realidad escuchaba música cristiana, su musica y letras mueven mis sentimientos sin ese toque de religión. Me gustaría saber si tus referencias son observaciones de coincidencias que tú encontraste o buscaste la información donde los miembros de la banda lo afirmaban.
Como sea, hay que ver también que u2 es mucho más directo! Que me dicen de In God’s Country, Gloria, Hallelujah here she comes, o la mayor de ellas (desde mi punto de vista) Until the endo of the world? Esta última es una plática de Judas a Jesus:

También en muchas canciones podemos ver cuestiones sobre la religión o puntos de vista un tanto llamativos sobre ella, como en el album POP: “Will we ever live in peace?…” “God is good, but will he listen?” (Starin at the sun)

Aunque en el Pop creo q son más vistosas hay otras en otras canciones:

Creo que blas mayores influencias en bono son la religión, la ciencia, el amor y la política, y exactamente eso es reflejado en la mayoría de sus canciones. En particular, me encantan las canciones donde bono se ve preocupado por alguna de estas cuestiones, se nota un sifrimiento interior por buscar una solución al por qué de que estos hechos no vayan bien.
Y podría seguir y seguir jejeje!! Lo siento , me gusta escribir.

I have a comment on Vertigo : The beginning of the sing : “Unos dos tres catorce!” I think that it’s in reference to The Bible : Unos is for the 1st testament, dos is for 2nd book (Exodus) and tres catorce is for chapter 3, verse 14 –> it is 3:14 when Moïse met God and God told him I AM WHO I AM.
